Methodology

How we verify every row

Every entry in the SSO Premium Index links to the vendor's own pricing page and carries a verification status so you can see exactly how much of each row is sourced and how much is triangulated. We do not present unverified data as verified, and we do not include unverifiable rows in the index medians.

Three verification statuses

Live-verified. Base and SSO prices were fetched directly from the vendor's pricing page on the verifiedOn date shown next to each row. These rows are included in the index medians and the category leaderboards.

Industry-reported. The vendor publishes pricing publicly but their pricing page blocks automated fetching (HTTP 403, SPA-rendered, bot detection). The figure is triangulated from multiple independent secondary sources — usually 2026 third-party reviews that cite the vendor's pricing page directly. These rows appear in the index for completeness but are excluded from the medians.

Quote-only. The vendor does not publish per-seat SSO pricing on a public page. ssoPrice is null and there is no honest premium % to publish. We label these clearly rather than invent a per-seat equivalent.

What counts as the base price

The cheapest paid plan that contains the core product. We exclude annual / multi-year discounts (cited as monthly equivalents on the index), free trials, and intro-rate promotions. For per-employee plans (HR, payroll), the price is the public list price at the lowest seat count.

What counts as the SSO price

The cheapest paid plan on which SAML 2.0 SSO is enabled without a workaround. OAuth-based "Sign in with Google / Microsoft" is not counted — the tracked feature is the enterprise IdP integration (SAML, frequently with SCIM and lifecycle management). If a vendor offers SAML on a non-flagship tier (e.g. via add-on), we use that price.

What we don't include in the premium calculation

Workarounds (running OAuth, third-party broker tools, manual provisioning) and bundled discounts. Quote-only Enterprise tiers are flagged but not scored — there is no honest way to publish a premium % for a price the vendor refuses to disclose.

Re-verification cadence

Every row is re-checked at least quarterly. The "verified on" date next to each entry is the most recent re-check. Major repricing events (covered in trade press, vendor announcements) trigger off-cycle updates within seven days. We keep a screenshot trail of every claim in our internal archive in case a pricing page changes.

The Premium Distribution and Category Medians

Distribution buckets and category medians are computed from live-verified vendors only. Industry-reported and quote-only rows are excluded so the published median is something we can defend per-row. The category leaderboard heatmap follows the same rule. The home-page stat strip shows the live-verified count and the industry-reported count separately for the same reason.

Vendors removed from the index

Four vendors that previously appeared in early drafts have been removed for not fitting a per-seat SSO premium index: Mailchimp (list-size pricing), Snowflake (per-credit consumption), Databricks (per-DBU consumption), and Klaviyo (profile-count pricing). These vendors do charge for SSO at higher tiers, but expressing the premium as a per-seat percentage is structurally misleading because the underlying pricing model is not per-seat. They may return as a separate consumption-based index in future.

Conflicts of interest

ssopricing.com is published by Digital Signet. Digital Signet does not sell access management, SSO infrastructure, identity-provider services, or HR / IT software. We do not accept sponsored placements that influence pricing claims or methodology. The advertiser exclusion list specifically forbids identity, SSO, and access-management ads on this property. There are no affiliate links to any vendor or IdP anywhere on the site.

Updates and corrections

If you spot a stale price, a broken source URL, or a vendor that should be in the index but isn't, email hello@digitalsignet.com with the source URL and the correction. Updates land within seven days. Reasonable vendor rebuttals are read in full.

What this site is not

We do not give security, procurement, or legal advice. The numbers here are a starting reference before you commission written quotes and review contracts with your own advisors. Vendor mentions are nominative fair use; we use minimum-necessary identifiers and do not imply endorsement.
